Consumer Tech / Impact
A VC-backed D2C tech startup was struggling to define, differentiate and articulate it’s proposition for customers, resulting in underperformance against aggressive growth targets.
Despite a clear social impact vision, the business was not translating its ESG DNA into value creation for the business, neither through top line revenue growth nor improved productivity through attracting & retaining the best talent by having a clear focus on social impact.
360
Approach to embedding impact
We worked closely with the business to develop a 360 approach to embedding impact into the heart of the business, developing a comprehensive ESG strategy that was integrated into both the business’ growth strategy and operating model.
We re-examined all aspects of the business from re-defining the core proposition to meet the ESG needs of the most profitable target customers and drive topline growth, to reinventing the supply chain to deliver against ambitious ESG goals, particularly on having a greater social impact in vulnerable communities. Clearer links were established between revenue growth and social impact to be able to scale both simultaneously.
The startups revenue increased exponentially, with more than >100% YoY growth, attracting and retaining a loyal base of customers motivated to purchase both for the product quality but also its ESG credentials whilst simultaneously increasing the companies social impact through it’s supply chain by more than 200% YoY. This in turn boosted employee motivation and improved the ability of the startup to hire exceptional talent into the business.
>100%
YoY revenue growth
